Senior Test Engineer

Team

Engineering

Location

Hawthorne, CA

Type

Full-time

Industrial power turbines haven't seen meaningful innovation in over a century. We believe that the modern world should not be limited by energy. Lazarus is a team with over 50 years of turbomachinery analysis, design, and testing experience. We are building the next generation of power conversion technologies that will solve today’s power demands and tomorrow’s renewable energy future. This is a rare chance to help define a new era of hardware energy products by leading core technology development from concept to test and production.

Lazarus is post-stealth and pre-series A. We are moving incredibly fast with a talented team in place, hardware in the door, and active testing underway. We are currently building a MW-class system to fire with natural gas and then integrate with nuclear heat before the end of 2027.

Role Overview

This role stands up testing at Lazarus from the ground up. Working directly with the founding team, you’ll design and build the test stands, write the test procedures and methodologies, set up how we record and store data, and be hands-on through assembly, commissioning, and test campaigns themselves. You will also own the speccing and bring-up of our first dedicated test facility. This is a role for someone who wants to own test architecture from a blank sheet. This is the person who makes it possible to actually run our machine and validate our architecture in the real world.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the stand-up of our test facility, including layout, utilities, safety, and the infrastructure to test high-pressure, high-temperature hardware

  • Design and build the test stands, rigs, and fixtures for prototype and production

  • Create test procedures and methodologies (how we run a test safely, repeatedly, and get the data we need)

  • Set up test data acquisition and management (how we instrument, record, store, and organize data)

  • Get hands on with hardware - assembling, wiring, and bringing up our initial machine and other test stands

  • Reduce and analyze test data, turning raw measurements into clear results the team can act on.

  • Own test-article logistics such as spares, consumables, fixtures, and instrumentation so the campaign keeps moving without stalling on missing parts.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in mechanical or aerospace engineering or similar.

  • Experience running hardware test campaigns and commissioning rotating or high-pressure / high-temperature systems.

  • Hands-on mechanical and electrical skills (comfortable assembling, plumbing, and wiring hardware yourself)

  • Strong instrumentation and data-acquisition fundamentals (sensors, signal processing, recording, etc.)

  • Resourceful generalist who can work across mechanical, fluid, electrical, and software domains to make a test happen

  • Excellent communication and leadership skills and a willingness to learn / teach

Preferred Experiences

  • Standing up a test facility, lab, or test cell from scratch (utilities, layout, safety, etc.)

  • High-pressure / high-temperature, cryogenic, combustion / natural gas, or rotating-machinery test experience.

  • Test safety basis and hazard analysis for energetic / high-pressure systems.

  • DAQ and test-software tooling (LabVIEW, Python, cRIO, or similar) and data-management practices

  • P&ID literacy to build and plumb systems to designed specifications

  • Burner management or combustion rig experience

  • Instrumentation for rotating machinery tests

  • Early stage or start-up experience.

Compensation & Benefits

  • US salary range: $160,000 - $210,000

  • Meaningful equity ownership

  • Company wide medical, dental, and vision insurance

  • Fully stocked kitchen with snacks, coffee, and lunch
